Students at the Cherish Center celebrated Earth Day by planting bluebonnet seeds and beautifying the planet. Thanks to a donation from Walmart, dozens of students participated in the special activity to mark the important date. Walmart donated 130 materials including: mini pots, potting soil and different flower seeds. After planting their seeds students would have the opportunity to take their flowers home and continue to care for them.
Students also learned about the importance of restoring, reusing and recycling thanks to a presentation given by warehouse management teacher Abraham De la Garza. He emphasized the importance of reusing items at home rather than tossing them immediately.
“Planet earth is all we’ve got and we have to make sure we take care of it,” said Cherish Center Director Joseph Lopez. “We need to make sure our students know each generation’s effects.”
Many of the students enjoyed the planting activity and said they would do their part to help conserve the environment.
“I want to help by recycling and picking up trash. I want to respect the earth, it’s mother nature’s too,” said Cherish Center student Gilbert Lopez.
