Summers Family to Provide 100 UISD Students with Swimming Lessons

UISD’s Carroll E. Summers, Jr. Aquatic Center will provide free swimming lessons for 100 students, thanks to the family of the man for whom the facility is named.

Carroll E. Summers, Jr. was an advocate of education throughout his life, and was in many ways responsible for the development of the swimming programs at UISD. During his time on the UISD Board of Trustees, he secured funding for the construction of the first swimming pool for our public schools. To honor his legacy, his family donated $5,000 to provide 100 UISD students with swimming lessons this summer.

Robert Summers, son of Carroll E. Summers, Jr. presented a check to UISD administrators at a ceremony held in the Aquatic Center bearing his father’s name.

Carroll E. Summers, Jr. made a difference as a board member by playing a crucial role in starting the swimming programs at UISD. The District thanks the Summers family for providing our students with such an important and potentially life-saving skill.

UISD Director of Athletics Bobby Cruz presented Robert Summers a portrait of the Aquatic Center bearing his father’s name.

Thomas Summers, Grandson of Carroll E. Summers, Jr. spoke briefly at the presentation.

The Summers Family and District 7 Board Member Frank Castillo toured the Aquatic Center.
