The United Independent School District congratulates Karla Garza for her new position as the new Associate Principal at United South High School 9th Grade Campus.  The passionate and dedicated leader has worked in UISD for 13 years. In her most recent role as a United South HS Assistant Principal, Garza served a multifaceted role as special education and science administrator, cheer and dance administrator, and other duties contributing to the academic success, personal growth, and overall development of studentswhile supporting the mission and vision of the school community.

Garza has high expectations for the upcoming school year. She envisions a learning environment where every student feels valued, supported, and motivated to excel. Her aim is to continue fostering a positive and inclusive school culture through the collaborative efforts of the outstanding faculty and staff of the United South HS 9th Grade Campus.

"I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to be the newly appointed Associate Principal of United South High School 9th Grade Campus," said Garza. "I want to express my gratitude for the trust that the UISD Board of Trustees, the Administrators in charge, and Principal Mrs. Martha Alvarez have given me. My commitment to upholding the values and mission that define United South High School is unwavering. I am eager to embark on this journey of service and leadership and am committed to contributing to the growth and success of our students, faculty, and staff. Together, I am confident that we can achieve remarkable outcomes and create a nurturing environment where every student can thrive."

Garza's journey in education began more than 16 years ago as a charismatic and devoted Special Education teacher. Garza's approach to teaching special education students revolved around empathy, patience, and creativity. She created a classroom environment where every student felt valued and supported. Whether adapting to new curriculum materials, implementing personalized learning strategies, or collaborating with specialists and families, she was committed to providing each student with the tools and opportunities needed to thrive.

She transitioned into various administrative roles, each marked by her dedication to excellence. As an ARD facilitator, she applied her expertise in special education, ensuring that students with special needs received the tailored support they required to achieve full potential. She then assisted in opening the new campus Raul Perales Middle School and performed as an Academic Coordinator, serving as a bridge between educational policy, curriculum development, teaching practices, student support, and administrative functions. Her dedication to promoting academic excellence, fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting the diverse needs of students and educators were essential for the overall success of the school.

Her leadership skills would propel her to key supervisor positions within the district.  Garza would later become an assistant principal at Raul Perales MS, where her vital role as an administrator played a crucial part in the smooth operation and overall success of the school community.

Garza has a Bachelor's Degree of Science (Special Education teacher) and a Masters of Science in Education (Educational Administration).

She has the unwavering support of her husband, Juan Garza, their three children, Juan Jr., Kaithlyn, and Kamila, her parents, sisters, and family, to whom she attributes her ability to pursue professional growth.

"Family, your support has propelled me forward and given me the confidence to aim higher. Your sacrifices and patience have not gone unnoticed, and I am immensely grateful for everything you do. Knowing that I have such a strong network of love and encouragement behind me has made all the difference."

Garza enjoys spending her time outside of work with her family and friends.
