UISD Projects an A-Rating for 5th Year

UISD's leadership had good news to share as students and staff went back to the classrooms for the 2024-25 school year. During a press conference to introduce and welcome the district's new Superintendent Dr. Gerardo Cruz, Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Policies Rebecca Morales, declared UISD a projected A-rated district for the 5th time.

UISD Executive Director of Instructional Accountability Christina Cabello said that although there was a delay in the official release of final state information, the district received raw data which was used to make the projection.

“The district is extremely proud and excited to finally be able to announce the A-rating projection for the district and all four high schools,” said Cabello. “Our state accountability, the A through F rating system from the state, rates students in domains, including student achievement, pass or fail, growth, and it also looks at different demographics for the assessment.”

Cabello says UISD has a good monitoring system, with scope and sequence and instructional coordinators helping to write the curriculum for the teachers. She says instructors have all the resources they need to provide the students the best quality education.

“Earning that A-rating shows that UISD is at the forefront of education. We provide our teachers with a lot of resources for the best quality instruction to our more than 40,000 students.”

The district thanked the parents for doing their part to ensure student success.  Cabello encourages parents to stay informed regarding school matters, attend parent report card nights and meetings, ask questions when needed, and make sure students attend school daily.

Dr. Cruz conceded that the pressure is now on him to continue UISD success in the classroom. He acknowledged and thanked the three Administrators-in-Charge before him, Rebecca Morales, Mike Garza and Laida Benavides. He said their teamwork, focus on academics and collaboration with UISD administrators, teachers and staff paid off in student outcomes.

"Our teachers need to feel rewarded and motivated, and that's why it's important to make this announcement, even though the accountability ratings will be delayed by the Texas Education Agency," said Dr. Cruz.
