United Independent School District announced that it will hold a charity golf tournament to raise scholarship money for District students in conjunction with Powell Watson Motors.
The 9th Annual Partners “Fore” Scholars Golf Tournament will be held at the Casa Blanca Golf Course on Saturday, October 26th. The tournament is sponsored by Powell Watson Motors.
All proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit United ISD’s Partners for Scholars Program, which awards financially challenged graduating seniors scholarship monies to attend the university or college of their choice. To date, the UISD Partners for Scholars program has raised over $500,000, and provided over 75 graduating seniors scholarship funds to attend college.
In addition to sponsoring the golf tournament, Powell Watson Motors donated $15,000 to the UISD Partners for Scholars Scholarship Fund. This money will directly benefit graduating UISD students as they embark on their college careers.
UISD Superintendent Dr. Gerardo Cruz encouraged all students to apply for the UISD Partners for Scholars Scholarship. “College tuition is very expensive. I want to ask all of our students out there at UISD to apply for the scholarship, so it can benefit you and reduce some of the financial burden,” he said.
UISD Director of Athletics Bobby Cruz expressed gratitude to Powell Watson Auto Group for sponsoring the tournament, and providing their generous donation. “We meet a lot of kids that always say, ‘college is too expensive. I don't know how I'm going to afford college,’ but because of Powell Watson Auto Group’s generosity and the title sponsorship for this, we were able to raise $70,000 last year. Powell Watson Auto Group has been a big contributor and, with their generosity and kindness, we appreciate it and we hope to continue this.”
Jonathan Watson, Jr. of Powell Watson Auto Group said, “I just want to say we’re so glad that we're partnering with UISD over the last nine years, and hopefully we can continue to do this for the foreseeable future.”
