United Independent School District administrators were joined by federal and local law enforcement agencies to announce the continuation of the District’s See Something, Say Something campaign, geared toward increasing vigilance of suspicious activity and awareness of how to report it for safer school communities.
This collaboration aims to help schools prevent, protect, mitigate, respond to, and recover from a range of school safety threats, hazards, and emergency situations.
Laredo Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez spoke about the importance of community involvement and awareness. “Everybody comes into play when we’re investigating a threat to any of our schools, and it’s important for that to happen because we don’t want a tragedy to happen,” said Chief Rodriguez.
District 6 UISD Board Secretary Michelle Molina said of the campaign, “It extends beyond our campuses, it extends beyond our facilities to protect our children, and that is why I am thankful to see so many law enforcement agencies supporting us here today.”
UISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gerardo Cruz commended local law enforcement for their part in assisting UISD to mitigate and respond to threats and emergencies. “It is certainly a good day to be part of UISD. Thank you to all our community partners and, most especially, our law enforcement. Without you, many of our initiatives cannot be implemented effectively,” he said, “I want to let all our students know that if you see something, it’s your obligation to tell a teacher or an adult. We're here to provide all safety measures.”
At UISD, the safety of our students and staff is always our number one priority, and we thank our local law enforcement agencies for their assistance and for always being there, along with our UISD Police Department, to keep our schools safe.
