United Independent School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gerardo Cruz traveled to Austin with the District’s Management Team to meet with Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath, State Representative Richard Raymond, and members of Senator Judith Zaffirini’s legislative staff.
Dr. Cruz and the administrators sat with Commissioner Morath and Representative Raymond to discuss critical legislative priorities for the upcoming legislative session aimed at bolstering public education and enhancing student growth and success. The team also met with staff members from the offices of Rep. Raymond and Senator Zaffirini to draft bill language designed to improve educational outcomes and student services, and increase support for classroom teachers and district staff. The visit was a unique opportunity for Dr. Cruz and the UISD Management Team to advocate for equitable resources and opportunities for local students and the communities of Laredo and Webb County.
“Meeting with Commissioner Morath, Representative Raymond, and the legislative team was an invaluable opportunity to ensure our students, teachers, and community receive the support and resources they deserve. We are committed to advocating for policies that promote public education and positive student outcomes. These conversations lay the groundwork for meaningful change that will benefit our district and all Texas schools. We want to thank Representative Raymond for coordinating this productive meeting with TEA Commissioner Morath and look forward to continued dialogue with state leaders,” said UISD Superintendent Dr. Cruz.
