United Independent School District Cherish Center students and staff gathered for a Thanksgiving luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Falcon Bank Ballroom.
A total of 91 students attended the event, and they expressed deep gratitude for their family, friends, and teachers during the luncheon. The highlight of the event was the joyful dancing, as students had the opportunity to groove to their favorite music, creating a lively and memorable atmosphere.
The Instructional Television Department produced two music videos featuring the students who performed the songs “Stand By Me” and “Piel Canela.” The videos debuted at the luncheon for everyone to enjoy.
Overall, a Thanksgiving luncheon offers an opportunity for students to engage in social and emotional learning, making it not only a celebratory event but also an important part of their development.
The event is a teaching moment, with staff providing guidance on appropriate behavior, conversation starters, and etiquette. This structure allows students to practice new skills in a real-world setting, which can then be generalized to other contexts outside the event.
The UISD Special Education Department would like to thank Falcon Bank for allowing them to use their ballroom for free. There are future events planned at the location with the special education students, and the district would like to thank Falcon Bank for their generosity.
