The J.B. Alexander High School Robotics Engineering Program recently hosted its first STEAM Symposium, bringing together close to 1,000 students from AHS feeder pattern schools for a dynamic celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM). The event featured more than 30 student-run booths from different AHS clubs, showcasing STEAM hands-on projects.
From robotics and engineering to art and math, students had the opportunity to explore innovative concepts and gain real-world insight into STEAM careers. The symposium was designed to spark curiosity, promote collaboration, and inspire students.
“This event would not have been possible without the full support and effort of our Robotics Clubs and AHS student-led organizations. Seeing the elementary and middle school students engaged and fully participating is what we all strived for,” said AHS Robotics Sponsor, Juan Medina. “The feedback was phenomenal.”
Mr. Medina hopes to turn this STEAM Symposium into a district-wide event next year, inviting all UISD High Schools and more community partners to participate.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for organizing such a successful event," said UISD Superintendent, Dr. Gerardo Cruz. “This symposium highlights the potential of our young students and emphasizes the importance of STEM education in shaping the future. It's inspiring to see our students not only learning but leading the way in innovation.”
Representatives from TAMIU's Robotics Program and Laredo College's Engineering Program were also in attendance, offering valuable resources and guidance for students interested in pursuing STEAM education and careers.
