Curriculum Based Assessments (CBAs)

United ISD will continue to implement locally developed Curriculum Based Assessments (CBAs) at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

CBAs serve as a form of communication for students, teachers, campuses and parents in that they track student academic progress. Essentially, CBAs give an individualized “snapshot” of a student by measuring how a student is “learning what should be taught.” CBAs use a variety of formats that are similar to the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).

The CBAs, which are aligned to the scope and sequence at each content and grade level, help determine classroom instruction. Teachers also use CBA results to adjust their teaching in order to help students reach their maximum potential.

It is important to note that the CBA score will count as a test grade in accordance with the District’s grading guidelines, just as a regular classroom test grade counts for students. These tests are aligned to the State standard blueprints and serve to familiarize students with the rigors and format of State assessment tests. The tests are essential in achieving student and teacher accountability. They also represent the progression of the learning process, as well as, the learning outcome. Students who require additional help are advised to attend tutorial sessions, Super Saturdays, academic seminars, and other improvement initiatives at their campus.

Parents seeking further information about CBAs, or their child’s performance on these assessments, may log-on to the United ISD Parent Portal or contact their child’s respective campus.
