UISD Celebrates Academic Excellence at GT Showcase

United Independent School District’s Advanced Academics Department held its annual Gifted and Talented (GT) Showcase at the Bill Johnson Student Activity Complex Auditorium, celebrating the creativity, innovation, and academic achievements of GT students from across the district.
During the event, outstanding students from each campus were recognized for projects they developed throughout the school year. Family members, teachers, and administrators gathered to applaud the students’ hard work and accomplishments.
Following the award ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to visit the SAC Fine Arts rooms, where student projects were displayed. The showcase featured a variety of presentations highlighting research, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity in multiple subject areas.
Advanced Academics Coordinator Maria Amparo Lanese spoke of the event’s importance while underscoring the value of the students’ work. “UISD’s annual GT Showcase is paramount, as it serves to validate and publicly demonstrate how our Gifted and Talented services effectively meet the unique educational needs of these high-achieving students,” she said. “The exemplary projects displayed are the tangible outcomes of rigorous, independent research, showing that students have synthesized complex learning, applied their knowledge to real-world situations, and developed innovative products designed to create a meaningful impact on their community. These exceptional works represent the highest achievements selected from all GT students across every campus.”
United Middle School 7th Grader Vania Ramirez, whose project was on Rock n’ Roll legend Buddy Holly, expressed what she likes most about being a GT student. “What I like most is how I get to meet people like me, and I get to see more creative ideas from them. I get curious, and I wonder, hey, maybe I should do some more research about that,” she said. “Being able to utilize my imagination so much helps me to be a better student. It expands my mind and I get to use that for math, reading, social studies and other subjects.”
The annual GT Showcase provides students with an opportunity to share their learning experiences while recognizing the dedication and support of educators and families who help foster academic excellence throughout the district.
