TEACHERS OF THE YEAR PROGRAM
The Teachers of the Year recognition program is intended to honor excellence in the classroom and provide a forum to showcase outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues and the community they serve. All recipients must:
- demonstrate outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching
- take an active role in their communities as well as their schools
- be professional, poised and articulate
- inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities
- be skillful, dedicated teachers who plan to actively continue classroom teaching

2025-2026 Elementary Teacher of the Year
Elizabeth Guerra-Lara
Elizabeth Guerra-Lara is currently a 4th grade teacher in a fully self contained classroom at Perez Elementary. Mrs. Guerra holds a Bachelors degree of Science obtained from TAMIU. Her teaching approach focuses on educating the whole child, creating a supportive and structured classroom where students develop strong literacy skills, confidence, and a love for learning. She prioritizes differentiated instruction and meaningful relationships with students and families to support academic and personal growth.

2025-2026 Secondary Teacher of the Year
Ariana Bermea-Mendoza
Ariana Bermea-Mendoza serves as a high school Health educator and the head volleyball coach at John B. Alexander High School. A dedicated lifelong learner, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Texas-Pan American, and a Master of Education in Education Administration from Texas A&M International University. Coach Bermea’s commitment to excellence is reflected in her recent national recognition by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for surpassing 300 career wins. Additionally,her leadership on and off the court led to her selection as the THSCA Region 7-6A Coach of the Year.
